Why should readers buy your book?
Regardless of genre, books can do one of two things: they can let you escape from reality, or they can set a mirror before you where you can see it, even in its darkest corners, with brilliance and precision you have not faced before. My books do both. Set in a different era, for example WWII London, they sweep you away into remembering every detail of that time, from how women styled their hair to how a telephone call from a booth was connected overseas. But arching over all these details is the way you will engage with my characters, and follow them in the hard choices they must make. What is the one thing you wish you knew about being a writer before you started your book?
I wish I knew that I would have to forge my own way and discover new methods, beyond the use of social networks, to create the connection to my readers. One of the best ways is forging alliances with other authors, whose work is of outstanding quality and whose audience appreciates creativity. I lead several projects with them, such as multi-author boxed set, facebook events, and radio appearances. Why do I reach out to you? Because of my characters. Having sprung from my mind onto the page, they might die there, pressed between the front and back covers–unless I make it possible for them to spring from the page to your mind.
Where do you draw your inspiration from to write your books?
The short answer is, the characters continue, every day, to reveal their secrets to me. Dancing with Air is the story of one of them: Natasha.
In the first volume, My Own Voice, and in the second volume, The White Piano, Natasha had no voice. She was utterly silent, which makes her son Ben hope—at first—that she can be reached, that he can 'save' her from the grip of memory loss. In the third volume, The Music of Us, we leap a generation back, to the beginning of WWII when she and Lenny first fall in love. The forth volume, Dancing with Air, shows her at her peak, back in the months leading to D-Day. And now, I am in the process of writing the fifth volume, Marriage before Death, which will tak place in France, D-Day and beyond.
What would you like to say to your readers?
I would like to thank all my readers, and especially those who love the romance novels in my boxed set, A Touch of Passion. Because of them, it has become the 2016 WINNER of The Romance Reviews Readers' Choice Awards.
5 Fun Facts About Uvi:
I taught myself to swim breast stroke, so my style is rather unusual to observe, but I do my laps for a whole hour, twice a week.
I cannot sing to save my life, which is just the reason why I adore anyone who can! Perhaps that is why my characters have musical talents. I would like to think that I have a feel for rhythm, which expresses itself in my poetry, but music is more than a beat, it allows you to soar over the notes.
In both my series, The David Chronicles and Still Life with Memories, I find it amazing--and hope you will too--to live in the skin of the character through an entire series of novels, and to experience events from youth to old age. In a way, this is similar to the way I sculpt: I let the figure age under my fingers, letting it go back and forth in time until I fix its features and its skin.
I am an artist, poet, and author. I have published 25 books, including novels, novellas, poetry collections, and children’s books. My art and my writing are two sides of the same coin: I write with my paintbrush, and paint with words. In art, I use different mediums, which enriches my designs: I sculpt (in bronze, clay, and paper); I draw in charcoal, ink, and pencils; I paint in watercolor and oils; and I create animations. Similarly, in my literary work I write in different genres, which enriches my thinking.
I find great joy in working on challenging projects with other creative individuals. This is especially true when I am working on the audiobook editions of my books with amazingly talented voice artists. A special mention here to Bob Sterry, who is in the process of narrating The Edge of Revolt, to Don Warrick, who narrated The Music of Us and Dancing with Air, to Justin Harmer who narrated A Peek at Bathsheba, to David George who narrated Rise to Power, to David Kudler, who narrated A Favorite Son and The White Piano, and to Heather Jane Hogan who narrated My Own Voice. Each one of them has given voice to a host of characters, and breathed life into my stories so I could hear them resonating not only in my own head.
